In the seven years that Chris and I have been professional photographers, we have photographed weddings from almost every spot in Maine, to Canada and points south such as a private island in Florida and most recently, a wedding in Jamaica.
But this weekend I had the pleasure to work with a local bride. There is something special about working for a family that has roots in the town in which you were raised. Looking around at the guests and seeing faces from your past while capturing people as they celebrate this young couple’s marriage was a privilege for me.
The wedding service was held in Cape Elizabeth and despite being attended by all 190 guests, this Catholic mass seemed more intimate than most. It was personal, and more poignant than the average wedding service. There seemed to be a clear focus on the importance of family on this day as Josh and Betsy were officially welcomed into each other’s respective families.
After a few quick formal photos at Fort Williams Park, the wedding party and family headed to the reception. Betsy, Josh and their families threw one hell of a party! Almost 200 guests packed the grand ballroom in the Eastland Park Hotel- mix in a great band, a few drinks to loosen up the guests and you are ready for a good time.
What struck me most about this reception was the style of dance. Guests seemed to square off in the middle of the dance floor for a “dance off.” It was as if each guest was attempting to “one
up” their dancing competition. This unique atmosphere made for a great evening and was perfect for capturing some rather unique images as guests let it all hand out!
Congratulations Betsy and Josh!
